Charles Eric Henry, PhD B.S.I died on December 30th at the age of 95 years. He was born in Minneapolis
and grew up in Fresno, CA. He received is Bachelor's degree from Fresno State College and his Master's and Doctorate
from the State University of Iowa. H ewas a Research Associate at Brown University, then an Instructor in Neuroanatomy at
Western Reserve University. IN 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Nacy and served in tits midical corps and later was a Reserve
Officer. After World War II, he was a psychophsyiologist at the instititue for Juvenile Reserach in Chicago. He moved
to Hartford, CT in 1948 and was an electroencephalographer at both the Instititue of Living as well as at Hartford
Hospital. In 1963 he accepted a position of Director of the EEG Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic. Upon retirement
in 1980 from the Clinic, he moved to Richmond VA and became a professor of Neurology at the Medical College of Virgina and
Chief of Neurophysiology at McGuire VA Hospital.
He was a pioneer in the field of electroencephalography (EEG) , actively contributing to both clinical and
research aspects of the field. He was especially interested in the standardization of recording, interpretation and
reporting of EEG data as well as the relationship of EEG to epilepsy, organ transplantation and cerebral death.
Dr. Henry was President of the American EEG Society and several regional societies, and chaired on several
major committes in nationa dn regional EEG organization. He served on the Editorial Board of the EEG Journal and was
a manuscript referee for several scientific journals. He had an intense interest in EEG technology and chaired the American
Board of Registration of EEG Technologists. Dr. Henry served as an examiner for this Board for 30 years. He was an sought-after
lecturer and authored or co-autheored over 150 scientific articles and book chapters. in 1990 he was honored to become
the patron of the Charles E. Henry Society for END (Electroneurodiagnostic) Technologists.
He was a voracious reader, an avid gardener, a competent woodworker and vintage auto buff. His interest
in Sherlock Holmes lead to his investiture as a Baker Street Irregular (B.S.I).
Dr. Henry leaves his wife of 47 years, Margaret Hazel Henry and four children: Judith Muller of Albuquerque,
NM, Susan Henry of North Ridge CA, Eric Henry of Corvallis OR and Marcy Alyn of San Diego CA as well as two grandchildren:
Daniel Muller of Tuscon AZ and Katie Muller of Northglenn, CO.
